Often referred to as a ‘cap’, crowns completely cover the affected tooth to rebuild its strength and enhance its shape and contour. This may be the case after a tooth has been broken or weakened by decay or a large filling. Other reasons a crown may be needed: NUMBER ONE: NO MORE IMRESSION NEEDED !
- Strengthen teeth after root canal treatment
- Improve tooth shape and reduce food traps
- Improve discolouration
- Improve biting abilities
- Prevent damage from excessive grinding
Crowns provide aesthetic and functional benefits to patients and can be made from a variety of different materials. Previously traditional metal-based crowns were used to strengthen and rebuild teeth; today there are many aesthetically pleasing options available.
In our practice, we use a special technique based on the high-end Sirona CEREC system. With CEREC, teeth can be restored in a single session with the patient, rather than the multiple sessions required with earlier techniques. As a result, taking the patient’s dental impression becomes redundant (as well as the usual provisional care procedure). Moreover, ceramic is the material which is most similar to dental enamel.
Additionally, with the latest software and hardware updates, crowns, veneers, and inlays can be prepared, using different types of ceramic material.
By the way, experience has shown that CEREC inlays are far more durable than an average German marriage!
